What is Cosmetic Tattooing?

Also called semi permanent make up, cosmetic tattooing is a method of implanting pigments into the top layer of the skin, using specialist tools and techniques. The process is gentler than standard tattooing so the results are finer, leading to a softer finish.

Microblading vs Powder/Ombre brow?

Powder/Ombre Brows uses a digital tattoo machine whereas Microblading uses a hand held tool called a microblade.

Microblading isn't suited to all skin types and therefore may not be suitable. For example, an oily skin doesn't hold the hair like stokes well, if at all. An in person consultation will help us decide what is best suited to your skin type.

Does Cosmetic Tattooing hurt?

We all have varying level of pain tolerance but the treatment should not be unbearable for anyone. The treatment can be uncomfortable for some but others do not complain of any discomfort. Not everyone experiences this discomfort but you will feel the vibrations of the machine - this can be likened to holding an electric toothbrush against your skin.

Am I suitable for Cosmetic Tattooing?

Most people are suitable for the treatment, but a detailed pre-treatment form will determine this. A patch test before hand is also advised to see if you have any allergies to the treatment. For those that are more prone to allergies, a scratch test may be required.

What will I look like immediately after my Cosmetic Tattoo treatment?

Redness and swelling may be present but should subside within 24 hours. Cosmetic Tattooing will appear slightly darker and more intense than expected for the first few days. During the healing process this will gradually lighten and soften.

Is Cosmetic Tattooing safe?

As with all treatments which involve breaking the skin, there is always risk of infection. I follow strict health and safety guidelines which keep myself and my clients safe. The equipment I use is of high quality, pigments are hypoallergenic approved and needles/tools are sterile and single-use. Equipment, such as treatment couch, are sprayed down, sterilised and re-covered with single use wrap for each client.

What are the pre-care instructions for Cosmetic tattooing?

Brows

• Do not drink alcohol or caffeine 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo.
• Do not consume coffee before your procedure.
• Do not take any aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood).
• Avoid fish oils, DHA supplements, vitamin e, niacin or anything that can cause blood thinning.
• Do not pluck, wax, thread or tint your brows before your brow treatment. It would be ideal to have as much hair growth as possible.
• Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face.
• Avoid self tanner before treatment. This can alter the overall look of your skin tone and also become patchy during procedure.
• Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment.
• Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment, these treatments thin the skin considerably.
• Do not work out the day of the procedure, excessive oils in the skin can prevent the pigment from retaining.

• Avoid working out for 7 days following treatment, the salt in sweat will fade the pigment and result in poor results.
• Do not have Botox 3 weeks before and after treatment.

• It is common to experience more sensitivity and pain around your menstrual cycle so bare this in mind when booking your appointment.

Lips

• Do not drink alcohol or caffeine 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo.
• Do not consume coffee before your procedure.

• Avoid Botox and fillers around the lip area 4 weeks before and after treatment.

• Avoid Glycolic acid, chemical peels, and laser treatments on the face 2 weeks prior.

• Avoid Retinols and anti-aging creams eg. Retin.

• Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face.
• Avoid self tanner before treatment. This can alter the overall look of your skin tone and also become patchy during procedure.

• Avoid Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Tylenol/Acetaminophen is ok to consume).

• Avoid fish oils, DHA supplements, vitamin e, niacin or anything that can cause blood thinning.

• Keep your lips well hydrated with a good lip balm.

• Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water (the first sign of dehydration is dry lips).

• If you have ever had a cold sore, been prone to any type of cold sores (herpes simplex virus) or you may have the herpes simplex virus that lies dormant in your system, this procedure could cause an outbreak. It is best to consult with your doctor and upon your doctor’s recommendation, take doctor-prescribed medication such as Acyclovir, Zovirax, or Valtrex before and after the lip procedure to help prevent or lessen the severity of an outbreak.

• Gently exfoliate your lips from at least 2 days prior to your procedure, twice a day (you could use sugar and coconut oil mixture for a natural exfoliate).

• Do not work out the day of the procedure, excessive oils in the skin can prevent the pigment from retaining.

• Avoid working out for 7 days following treatment, the salt in sweat will fade the pigment and result in poor results.
